Despacito is a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. The song is a blend of reggaeton and pop music did not just bring interest to reggaeton, but also brought attention to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four tracks in 2016. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 In 2020, there were 41 such songs. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team on MIA (2018) and Madonna teamed up with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. By 2020 a few reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation, led by Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. It was often associated with electronic dance as well as different forms.
